BUTLER, FAIRMAN AND SEUFERT SELECTED TO HEAD DOWNTOWN INDIANA APPROACH DESIGN WORK
June 2005 -- Indianapolis-based engineering firm Butler, Fairman and Seufert has been selected to manage the design phase for the Downtown Indiana Approach. The firm will oversee all aspects of design work and coordinate with engineers from Michael Baker, Jr., Inc., the firm managing design of the Downtown Bridge.
Butler, Fairman and Seufert, which maintains an office in Jeffersonville, initially specialized in bridge and road engineering and now provides a broad range of engineering services. Stephen Weintraut has been named the firm's project manager for the Downtown Indiana Approach.
Aerial surveying of the downtown Jeffersonville area took place in early March. Those results will be studied in preparation for topographical surveying and mapping. Ed Cox, project manager with the Indiana Department of Transportation, said survey contracts are being negotiated and could be complete by early July.
When completed, the Downtown Indiana Approach will feature:
- A new ramp system linking the Clark Memorial Bridge and I-65
- Additional access between Jeffersonville and Clarksville with the opening of Sixth Street under I-65
- New connections at I-65 and Court Avenue, and improved access at I-65 north of Stansifer Avenue
