Gary Valentine Named Project Manager of the Ohio River Bridges Project

Frankfort, Ky. - (September 2, 2008) - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Joe Prather has named Gary Valentine as project manager of the Ohio River Bridges Project. Valentine assumed the position effective September 2, replacing Interim Project Manager Matt Bullock.

Valentine has worked in various capacities in KYTC's District 4, based in Elizabethtown, since 1990. Most recently, Valentine worked as District 4's Branch Manager for Pre-Construction, overseeing the areas of Environmental, Design, Right-of-Way, and Utility Relocation for all District 4 projects in the Kentucky Highway Plan. Prior to that, Valentine worked as District 4's Design Engineer, overseeing project managers and the district's survey crew while continuing project engineering and project management duties.

Valentine attended the University of Kentucky, graduating in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He received his Professional Engineering registration in 1995.

Valentine, a member of the Kentucky Association of Transportation Engineers, serves as an instructor in the Department of Highways' Project Development Academy. He also serves the Transportation Secretary on selection committees for professional services that are outsourced.

Valentine is married with two children and lives in Elizabethtown.

Secretary Prather's office also announced Andy Barber as Deputy Project Manager. Barber worked most recently as resident engineer in KYTC District 7, the Lexington area, where he served in various capacities since 2002. During his tenure, Barber worked on numerous large projects including:

  • Widening and resurfacing of I-75 South in Fayette County.
  • Widening of 3 miles of I-64 and reconstruction of Clintonville Road overpass in Clark County.
  • Removal and reconstruction of a steel beam bridge over CNO Railroad in downtown Lexington.

Barber attended the University of Kentucky on a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Engineering Scholarship, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 2001. He received a Professional Engineering License in 2005.

Barber, originally from Frankfort, is married and lives in Louisville.
