BRIDGES PROJECT PUTS MODELS OF BOTH SELECTED BRIDGE TYPES ON PUBLIC DISPLAY
Louisville, KY – January 2007 -- The communities of Southern
Indiana and Louisville will have a special treat at two local universities over
the next few months. Indiana University Southeast and the University of Louisville
will be hosts to the Ohio River Bridges Project’s models of the new Ohio River
bridges. Both the East End and Downtown Bridge models will be on display and open
to the public over the next couple of months.
Each model is a large three-dimensional display of what both bridges will look like
in their environment. The East End Bridge (6 feet by 2 feet) model represents how
the selected median-tower, cable-stayed design will look as the connector of Utica,
IN and Prospect, KY. The Downtown Bridge model (7 feet by 4 feet) represents how
the selected three-tower, cable-stayed design will look next to the Kennedy Bridge
and how it will look amid Waterfront Park, Spaghetti Junction and in the area of
Jeffersonville. These highly detailed models will allow the public to understand
how the bridges will mesh with their surroundings.
The East End and the Downtown Bridge models are currently on display and will remain
until Feb. 6 at the Indiana University Southeast’s new campus library. The
models will be located on the top floor of the library. Hours of operation and directions
to the library can to be found on the school’s Web site,
www.ius.edu.
The models will be moved on Feb. 6 to the University of Louisville’s Gheens
Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium located on the university’s campus. The
Science Hall will display the models in the front lobby until March 6. For more
information about the Science Hall, hours of operation and the location of the building,
