Public Votes for its Favorite Bridge Type Designs

November 2006 – The public is encouraged to vote for their favorite Downtown and East End bridge types through Nov. 19.  Electronic voting is available on the Ohio River Bridges Project Web site, www.kyinbridges.com.  Along with the voting system, the on-line site also allows individuals to view various renderings of the final alternatives and provide written comments.

A series of open houses was held the week of November 13, in an effort to get more public input.  At these open houses visitors viewed three-dimensional models, asked questions of project team members and cast their vote for their favorite bridge types.

Voting forms also will be available beginning Monday, November 13 from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the following Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Indiana Department of Transportation offices:

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet - District 5 Office
977 Phillips Lane
Louisville, Ky 40209

Indiana Department of Transportation - Falls City Subdistrict Office
5701 U.S. Highway 131
Clarksville, IN47129

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet - Central Office
200 Mero Street
Frankfort, KY 40622

The public can also vote by calling Community Transportation Solutions (CTS), the Bridges Project's general engineering consultant, at 1-800-513-6691, or by writing to CTS at 305 N. Hurstbourne Parkway, Suite 100, Louisville, KY 40222.  Comments can be faxed in to 502-426-9778.

The Executive Bridge Type Selection Committee will use the public input in its final decision on which bridge types will be built. The committee met on November 1, 2006 to discuss and review the final six alternatives – three for each bridge location.  The Executive Bridge Type Selection Committee will meet again following the Thanksgiving holiday.  The final bridge types should be selected around the first of the year.

The committee includes Gov. Ernie Fletcher, Gov. Mitch Daniels, Rep. Anne Northup, Rep. Mike Sodrel, Mayor Jerry Abramson, Commissioner Ed Meyer, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Bill Nighbert and Indiana Department of Transportation Commissioner Thomas Sharp.  The elected officials also appointed citizen representatives including Fred Mudge, Ned Pfau, Jr., Ed Glasscock, Dale Orem, David Karem and Sam Smith.
