Blasting Operations to Begin at U.S. 42 and KY 841

July 19, 2006 - The Department of Highways District 5 Office announces the beginning of blasting in the project area for the relocation of the ramps at KY 841 and US 42. Blasting will begin on Monday, July 24, 2006, time to be determined. Blasting operations may occur weekdays between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and will continue until September 2006.

The actual starting date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Kentucky Issues Notice of Intent for Project’s Downtown Phase

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is seeking teams of contractors to design and build a new downtown Louisville bridge, a modernized downtown interchange and improved I-65 connections to Southern Indiana. The Cabinet has issued a notice of intent for the downtown portion of the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project. This is the first step to procurement of Kentucky’s half of the project, a bi-state partnership with the State of Indiana to build two new bridges and enhance interstate connections that will improve safety, congestion and mobility for the region. Contractor teams from around the region, nation and world are invited to attend a pre-bid meeting beginning at 10 a.m. EST on Thursday, March 1, at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville. Kentucky plans to award a design-build contract by October 2012 and anticipates construction to be complete by June 2018.

The public comment period on the Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement has ended. As always, comments about the project can be voiced by utilizing the "Contact Us" portion of the website. A response, if requested, is provided.

SUPPLEMENTAL DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT (SDEIS)

On November 10, 2011, the SDEIS for the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project was approved by the Federal Highway Administration, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). ASSESSING EFFECTS ON HISTORIC RESOURCES

The Section 106 consultation team for the Ohio River Bridges Project is assessing effects of the Project on historic resources. A document summarizing the project sponsors' recommendations is available here. The 30-day comment period on this document ends December 5, 2011 at 9:00 am.
