Public Invited to Attend Kennedy Interchange Open House
Louisville, KY (October 25, 2005) – The Kennedy Interchange design team is hosting
a Public Open House on Thursday, October 27 at the Louisville Marriott Downtown
to discuss the redesign and reconstruction of the interchange, and solicit public
feedback. The Open House will take place from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
The design team will present information on a number of studies in progress, some
of which were prompted by public comment. The studies include:
- Reviewing ways to minimize impacts to the Great Lawn at Waterfront Park
- Determining the feasibility of making Mellwood and Story Avenues two-way
- Replacing the split interchange at Mellwood and Story Avenues with a single interchange at Mellwood Avenue
- Improving connectivity of bikeways in the Interchange area
- Incorporating historic preservation efforts into the overall design
- Examining potential noise wall locations.
Visitors can also learn about context sensitive design guidelines, the development
of right-of-way plans, and portions of I-65 between Broadway and Chestnut on which
reconstruction could begin next year.
Attendees will view a video about the new Interchange design and the studies underway,
and then proceed into the open house area where there will be individual stations
for each of the study topics. There will also be opportunities for attendees to
provide comments and ask questions of project engineers and representatives from
the Bi-State Management Team.
