Kentucky Engineering Scholars Program

Mission:

To increase the number of civil engineers in Kentucky

Objectives:

  • Step up communication to students about civil engineering careers
  • Create opportunities in Kentucky for minorities in civil engineering
  • Provide information about and execute scholarship programs for students, from middle school to college
  • Implement college scholarships for civil engineers

FACTS:

  • KESP has communicated with more than 2,000 students since 2005
  • There are approximately 100 students participating in the KESP
  • KESP has provided 30 summer internships from the Bridges Project's various participating engineering companies, Metro Public Works and MSD
  • Nine scholarships have been awarded to students from Kentucky State University, the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky
  • KESP received three Kentucky Transportation Cabinet scholarships

KESP Student Profile

  • Average GPA is 2.5 and ranges from 2.5-3.8
  • ACT scores range from 18-32

KESP Offers:

  • Summer internships
  • Field trips that provide hands on teaching for the students
  • Environment that provides critical thinking for students
  • Assistance with college opportunities and preparations
